Emergency Psychiatric Services
If you or a loved one are having a psychiatric emergency, we’re available 24/7.
You can count on Memorial Healthcare System for immediate care during a psychiatric emergency. We provide mental status exams and treatment for those who come in voluntarily.
As a Baker Act receiving facility, we are also allowed to examine, treat, and admit people in crisis who arrive voluntarily or involuntarily. Additionally, we can provide court-mandated treatment under the Marchman Act for anyone who is seriously impaired due to alcohol or substance abuse.
Depending on your condition, you may be released and referred to outpatient treatment or admitted to Memorial Regional Hospital for crisis stabilization.
You don’t need to feel “ready” to reach out. We’ll meet you where you are and stand beside you as you begin your recovery journey. Call today to take the next step.

Our overdose prevention program provides immediate access to treatment for people with opioid use disorder who arrive at our emergency department. We quickly assess patients and provide screening, intervention and referral to our medication-assisted treatment program for opioid use disorder.
By identifying people at high risk of drug overdose death, we can help them get the treatment they need to stay safe. As part of our overdose prevention program, we provide Narcan® (naloxone) to those who need it.
We provide compassionate care for people struggling with suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Anyone who arrives at our psychiatric emergency department after attempting or contemplating suicide receives immediate help, plus a referral to ongoing therapy and support.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call or text 988 for help.
Our Child and Adolescent Treatment Services (CATS) Behavioral Health Unit is a 12-bed inpatient facility. We treat children ages 5 to 17 who are experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis.
A typical stay is about four days while your child’s condition stabilizes. Afterwards, we refer them to the appropriate ongoing outpatient treatment at Memorial or our partner, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
If your child comes through our psychiatric emergency department or the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital pediatric emergency department, we’ll make sure they get the immediate care they need.
